This creative writing workshop is suitable for beginners, writers with projects underway, or those looking for a fresh injection of inspiration. It is perfect for all genres and those wishing to write short stories.

Workshop description: In the iconic and wonderfully-inspirational setting of London’s Southbank, this one day creative writing workshop focuses on the creation of a story via the learning, revisiting and practice of the key elements necessary to write a compelling piece of work. Whether new to creative writing or a seasoned author, together we explore the ingredients we must bring together to make a story sparkle, harnessing them via group discussion and focused slots for writing. Obviously, there’s a great deal to get through in
the day, however, it’s this immersion that clarifies our understanding of the creative process.

Workshop goal: working on either your own idea or one we can create together, you will develop your story throughout the day, ending up with a complete piece of work.

Additional benefits for existing writers: this intensive approach can work wonders for creating ideas/plot paths forward, plus also the ironing-out of any plot jams.

With accompanying notes, this workshop commences in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall, then, as a group, we move along the Southbank, soaking up the location’s fabulous ambience as we discuss each of the ingredients we need to work on, regularly stopping along the way to get writing and creative.

The key elements featured:

The morning session - 10am-1pm:

Structure

Character

Location

Dramatic event

Lunchbreak - 1-2pm approx. (These workshops are very flexible.)

The afternoon session - 2-5pm:

Reaction to dramatic event

Build-up toward the conclusion

Plotting, plot twists, pace & the best reader experience

possible

Strong, dramatic, fulfilling conclusion.

(Due to the spontaneity of the creative process, the above ingredients will all be covered, though possibly in a slightly different order.)

The goal of the workshop: to be a thoroughly interactive and great fun day of learning, at the end of which you will have written, from scratch (or completed) a story. And there’s nothing like being in the company of fellow creatives for inspiration, motivation, learning and to really develop our work.

Reviews:

“Such an exciting day which really kickstarted my writing. So much fun, and in my favourite part of London!” Sarah, Oxford.

“This workshop is a game changer. It opened my eyes to everything that’s required to write a full, rich novel. I tend to procrastinate, so the intensive nature of this day really helped me. I learn best by actually doing it, rather than being in a classroom. Superb!’ Ryan, Bromley.

“I’m a beginner, so the best part for me was coming away with a check-list reminder of what I should include: plot, drama, narrative, dialogue, descriptions etc. Highly recommend this, and Dominic’s enthusiasm is infectious.” Zelda, Chislehurst

“I love the film-like pre-production work we did as a group, building our characters and plots as we went, which sparked wonderful backstories. Thank you so much, Dominic.” Deepika, Wandsworth.
